For Everything There Is A Season
In Ecc 3, Solomon reminds us that God has established times and seasons. Obviously, since God established these, he is in control of them. In his list, Solomon states that there is a time to live and a time to die: A time to plant and a time to reap. There were several other topics that he discussed, but for our purpose we will consider only these 2 comparisons. Have you ever thought about the fact that your birthday is far more than just the day that you began to have life. It is the day that God chose for you to come into this world. Neither you nor your parents had any say in this decision. I am reminded of another individual that God used mightily who, herself, was reminded of God's timetable - that of course being Esther, who was born "for such a time as this". Esther 4:14 Just as God established our entrance into this world, so He knows our date of departure. Certainly, we don't, and for that reason we should live each day as if it were our last. James tells us that our life is like a vapor that comes and goes far too quickly. So, we must be ready for the end. Now, if these things are true of us, then they are also true of everyone, which brings into play the second of our points of consideration. Yes, there is a time to sow the seeds that will yield crops to feed us and if we don't sow in the right season there will be no harvest. But, considering the fact that man is only here for a short time, we must realize that there is also a time to sow the seed of the Word of God to a lost world, so that we - or someone else - might reap the harvest. The same things holds true here as well, in that if we do not sow at the right time, we will not reap a harvest. Let's be sensitive to the times and the seasons, so that we might be ready to sow the seeds of eternal life.
