What Makes You Happy

I like to be happy. I like to laugh. But, one thing that I have found out over the years is that what makes me happy doesn't necessarily make someone else happy. You would think that since we are all so similar that there would be a common "something" that we could all point to and say "now, that makes me happy". Maybe it is because that, as someone once said, happiness is relevant. And if I may use the play on words, it is our relatives that often determine our happiness. When it comes to the material things in this world, I am far from being rich. But, when it comes to family, I am so blessed. You know, we may be hitting on something here. Maybe we are looking in the wrong direction for our happiness. Maybe it isn't the things of this world, but the people that God put in our lives that provides the greatest joy. Just maybe it is what we are able to do for them rather than what they are able to do for us that gives us the greatest pleasure. It is the holiday season - Thanksgiving, when we have so much to be thankful for and Christmas when we can focus on giving rather than getting. So, let's keep our focus on the right things. I think it is when we realize that the material things will someday pass away, but people are eternal, that we begin to understand what real happiness is all about. So, don't look around you and be saddened by "what" you don't have, but open your eyes to "who" you do have and rejoice. Then sing a few bars of "Don't worry, be happy". It will make you feel good.
